It was a great day for racing at Hamilton today. The weather was nice and the turnout was awesome. Sixty Eight people signed
up for racing. This included 10th scale open, 10th scale touring, 8th scale, and 5th scale. There was enough people to do up
to C mains in the 10th scale touring.
I got a good feel of the track on the first practice run so I decided to run one tank and then wait for the qualify heats.
As long as I was satisfied with the handling, it was pointless to waste gas doing laps. As the day progressed, I found the
tend to oversteer too much on-power and corner entry. I solved this by increasing the rear camber and decreasing caster. This help
give the car a more neutral feel with a slight bit of over steer which was what I wanted. With the new settings on the car,
I managed to get into the B-Mains starting at 6th position.
DUring the B-main finals, I gave it my best to gain as many positions as possible after the start-buzzer. I was able to
get into 2nd place after the first corner while avoiding traffic. The starts always have accidents because every driver
is rushing to gain position. I was lucky enough to sneak through the gaps into second place. I held second for about a lap
before I got passed. Since this race was a "for fun" race, I let anyone who wanted to pass go by without a fight. I managed
to drive at a relaxed pace and stayed in 3rd place for most of the time. Unfortunately due to the chassis being worn out,
the spur gear touched the ground and stripped. I lost first gear and my main was over. This happened during the last 5
minutes of the race. It was a disappointment because I had chance of getting 2nd place because the drivers ahead of me also
broke. This thing with the Hamilton race track is to outlast the other drivers. Other drivers get too anxious and start
pushing their car to the limits until something breaks. If you drive at a relaxed pace, then the results would show.
This was the case with Paul Hong; a rookie driver and good buddy who just started racing. He drove with a consistent pace
and avoided traffic and barriers. He ended up in 3rd place C-Main. Congradulations!
James Mak had a very good run with his 1/8th scale. Started out in 2nd position in the A-mains, he was intensly chasing Lou Vanderway
for the first 8 minutes of the race. He stayed behind Lou and ran consistent laps. It wasn't until after the second pit stop
when Lou stalled out and James took the lead. James was leading 6(?) laps ahead of the second place car until the last 5 minutes
of the race when the pully decided to strip. This ended his day. However, with his awesome skill and fast driving being able to
put 6 laps ahead of second place, James didn't drop too many positions. He ended up in 3rd place A-Main. Congradulations!
