I've created this section called Heli Tales in honor of those who tried flying a RC heli and crashed and burned bad. I work part time at a hobby shop, actually 2 shops, but I freelance. I fix a lot of helis usually averaging 4 per week on a good week. Some of the damages I've seen are jaw dropping and some customers try to fly the helicopter with such terrible damage. The most common damage is blade damage. Ok, well one crash with these RC helis usually renders the blades un-usable, BUT, customers always; and I mean ALWAYS use some sort of tape and wrap up the blades. That's a big mistake. First off, safety. My number one concern is always safety. I hear horror stories of people getting seriously injured with a wack from heli blades. Basically, I refuse to start up the rotor of a heli with taped blades or damaged blades. Second, taping the blades throws off the balance of the rotating head. This makes the heli harder to fly. I also refuse to fly with taped blades because of this reason.
This section will talk about the different helicopters I had to repair. I will get to the down and dirty and nit pick about every single thing i find wrong about it. Of course, I will fix the damages. I do my standard blade balancing, pitch check, tracking, and test flight to ensure the heli actually flies before returning the heli. Once the heli hovers properly and the controls feel stable, then my job is done. Some helicopters take longer to fix than others. Well, enough talk, Let's begin.
